The future of solar energy in the UK
The UK is seeing strong growth in solar energy, driven by government support, new policies, and rising consumer interest. The government aims to triple solar capacity by 2030, with large-scale solar farms expanding across the country. Investments in renewable energy are increasing, helping the UK move toward energy independence and lower costs.
Solar power now generates nearly 5% of the UK’s electricity, with over 16.9GW installed—enough to power millions of homes. The number of solar farms is set to rise, with thousands more planned. Companies are investing billions in solar and other renewables, strengthening the UK’s position as a leader in green energy.
Consumer interest is also growing. Searches for “Are solar panels worth it?” surged by 350% in September. Higher energy costs are pushing more people to explore solar as a way to cut bills and gain energy security. While weather conditions impact installation rates, winter offers an opportunity to promote solar benefits.
With the Future Homes Standard requiring new homes to be more energy-efficient, solar power will play a key role. The UK is making progress, but continued investment and awareness are needed to reach net-zero goals and ensure a sustainable energy future.
