New solar farm inches closer to approval
A proposed solar farm near Yatton Keynell and Allington in Wiltshire could generate 10 megawatts of power, enough to supply 5,500 homes annually. Developer Noventum Power submitted a planning application to Wiltshire Council after a community consultation where most feedback supported the need for renewable energy projects.
The site spans two agricultural fields east of Battens Farm. Energy produced would connect to the National Grid through an existing overhead line linked to the Yatton Keynell substation, located about 462 meters from the site.
According to Noventum Power, the solar farm would operate for 40 years before decommissioning, which is expected to take six months. Once dismantled, the land would be restored to its original state. The developer highlighted the community’s input as valuable in refining the project.
Wiltshire Council is reviewing the application and is expected to decide by January 2025. This project aligns with broader efforts to expand renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on traditional power generation methods.
As climate change continues to drive record temperatures globally, initiatives like this aim to address rising energy demands sustainably while supporting environmental goals for future generations.
