New engery storage deal which could boost british renewables
Fidra Energy and Sungrow are working together to create a large battery energy storage system in the UK and Europe. Their goal is to build a 10GW storage platform by 2030.
Sungrow will provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled batteries for two of Fidra’s sites in the UK. These batteries will store energy for two hours at first, with plans to increase storage time to four hours. Sungrow will also take care of maintenance to keep everything running smoothly.
The first site, Thorpe Marsh in South Yorkshire, will start construction in 2025. Once completed, it will supply electricity to as many as 800,000 homes when demand is high.
The second site, West Burton C in Nottinghamshire, will begin construction in 2026. This site will provide power for up to 300,000 homes during busy times.
This partnership helps support renewable energy by making sure extra power can be stored and used when needed. With these new battery systems, the UK will have more reliable and flexible energy storage. This project is a step toward a cleaner and stronger energy system for the future.
