Gloucester landfil to become to become an ecopark with 4000 solar panels
A former landfill site in Hempsted is being transformed into an ecopark that will feature 4,000 solar panels. The project aims to provide "green and cheaper electricity" for up to 2,500 homes in Gloucester. Along with the solar panels, the 360-acre site will include a biomass generator and a woodland with 100,000 trees.
Developers Harvest Green Developments and site owner Enovert are working together to make the space useful and environmentally friendly. The solar development is expected to open in early 2025 and will last for about 25 years. After that, the components can be recycled, and the land restored for other uses.
James Clifford from Harvest Green Developments said the project will help meet growing electricity demand while lowering costs. The site is ideal for solar energy since it cannot be used for housing or businesses.
This ecopark is part of the Hempsted landfill restoration and is located close to Gloucester, making it a convenient source of clean energy for the community.
