Call for home solar panels instead of solar farms
Bengt Larson from Bury St Edmunds believes solar panels should be added to new homes rather than building large solar farms on farmland. He shared his view on BBC Politics East, highlighting that new homes in his area could be fitted with solar panels, which he sees as the future of energy.
MPs from different parties support his idea. Marie Goldman, Liberal Democrat MP for Chelmsford, agrees that solar panels should be easier to install on existing roofs. Jerome Mayhew, Conservative MP for Broadland and Fakenham, has campaigned for solar panels to be included in future home grants, although he suggests that not all homes may be suitable for them. Pam Cox, Labour MP for Colchester, said solar panels would be part of Labour's planning reforms, alongside other energy solutions like ground source heat pumps.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband recently approved three major solar projects that could provide power for up to 400,000 homes. He aims to encourage solar panel installation on UK rooftops, helping homeowners save on bills while contributing to the country’s clean energy goals. Many agree that focusing on solar panels for homes could be a smart solution, reducing the need for large solar farms on farmland.
